Cheesy Breakfast Rolls

Deliciously soft and fluffy cheesy breakfast rolls filled with melted cheese and savory ingredients, perfect for a satisfying morning meal or snack.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked breakfast sausage, crumbled (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter and egg to the yeast mixture and whisk to combine.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangular shape about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Evenly sprinkle shredded cheese, cooked sausage (if using), green onions, and black pepper over the dough.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log shape and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place rolls cut-side up on a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise for 20-30 minutes.
  10. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, omit the sausage or substitute with sautéed mushrooms or spinach for extra flavor and nutrients.
