Classic Meatloaf

A hearty and comforting classic meatloaf made with ground beef, seasoned breadcrumbs, and a tangy tomato glaze, perfect for a satisfying family dinner.

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/3 cup ketchup (for topping)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, soak breadcrumbs in milk for 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, egg, 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, thyme, and oregano to the breadcrumb mixture. Mix until combined but not overworked.
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a baking pan.
  5. In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard; spread evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for 60-70 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  7. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra moisture, try adding finely grated carrots or a splash of beef broth to the mixture. Serve with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables for a classic meal.
