Homemade Bread

This homemade bread features a soft, golden crust and a chewy, airy interior—perfect for sandwiches or as a side to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet.
  6. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For extra flavor, brush the top with melted butter right after baking or add herbs like rosemary to the dough.
