Freshly prepared Sausage Gnocchi on clean counter

Sausage Gnocchi is a hearty Italian-inspired dish featuring tender gnocchi sautéed with savory sausage and a rich tomato sauce, perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 lb potato gnocchi
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Drain any excess fat if necessary, then stir in the crushed tomatoes and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes to combine flavors.
  5. Meanwhile, cook the gnocchi according to package instructions until they float to the surface. Drain well.
  6. Stir the heavy cream into the sausage and tomato sauce, then add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet. Toss gently to coat the gnocchi in the sauce.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, drizzle with a little balsamic glaze or serve with a side of garlic bread.
