Delicious homemade Turtle Poke Cake close-up

Turtle Poke Cake is a rich, indulgent dessert featuring layers of moist chocolate cake soaked with caramel and topped with pecans and chocolate drizzle for a perfect balance of sweet and nutty flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients to prepare as directed)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans for topping
  • Whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions and bake in a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Once the cake has cooled for about 10 minutes, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the surface of the cake.
  3. Pour the warm caramel sauce evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.
  4. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer, then pour over the chocolate chips in a bowl; let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth to make ganache.
  5. Pour ganache evenly over the caramel-soaked cake.
  6. Sprinkle chopped pecans over the top.
  7. Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.
  8. Serve chilled with a dollop of whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, drizzle additional caramel or sprinkle sea salt over the cake before serving.
